Pete Burkill

International session stylist and brand ambassador

It seems like only a few short years ago, that Pete was studying with us at Philips Hair Academy. Since then, he has done so much in his fabulous, fantastic, exciting hairdressing career.

Based at the Josh Wood Colour Salon in London’s Holland Park, Pete fronts his own session styling business, overseeing shoots for major consumer magazines and looking after a growing celebrity clientele.

Having worked as a stylist at a number of award-winning salons, including Hob Salons as Creative Director and part of the group’s Artistic Team, Pete also brings a wealth of experience to a further new role as creative ambassador for the UK for Alter Ego Italy.

A few years ago, Pete worked on live breakfast television in New Zealand presenting styling tips. He also works as a session stylist for magazines, such as Marie Claire and Hunger TV.

Pete made a strong mark in his career very early, as he became the youngest ever member of the Clynol Protégé Team. He proved himself as he then became an Artistic Associate and Brand Ambassador for Clynol.

Pete entered competitions and won many awards; during this time, he was a finalist for the Newcomer of the Year at British Hairdressing Awards at the very tender age of age of 19. He now jets off to different countries to judge such awards as the prestigious ‘Wella Trend Vision’ competition.

In 2015, after a rigorous section process, Pete was voted to become part of the dynamic (Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence) F.A.M.E. team for a year, which involves being mentored by some of the biggest names in the hairdressing industry. Being passionate about education, Pete believes this is the perfect finishing school for hairdressers to perfect their craft and it was always an ultimate goal for him to become part of the team.

Pete says:

“Every day is different; I’m either in the academy teaching our International students, or I’m on a shoot, or working with PR and beauty editors.

I love that I have so much versatility in my role, but I think it is really important that I continue on work on clients, to ensure that the work I do remains relevant to what the public wants.”

He describes himself as: Committed, passionate, approachable, creative and loving.
